A Glimpse into our Typical Day

Here at CELA, we typically start our day meeting our children at the door as we welcome them into our prepared environment. We give them ample time to get ready to join the class, making sure that they keep all their belongings in their own cubbies and change into their indoor shoes, and off they go to start their day with lots of FUN and learning.

Then children will have time for some free play, an opportunity for them to settle down and get along with other kids in the room.

We also offer children some morning snacks just in case they don't get enough time to eat their breakfast at home.

Then we gather our kids to our circle time, where we meet to plan and talk about how our day is going to be. There will be some singing and reading story books, looking at our weather, doing our calendar activity, and having our Show and Share for the day at Circle Time.

We actively encourage children to engage their senses and utilize their skills to explore our carefully curated activities, which are designed to enhance their abilities across all areas of learning. These activities were planned after careful observation of our children’s interests and needs.

And as part of our daily routine, we go outside to play and give our children the chance to explore the natural environment and have adventures with our vibrant and innovative outdoor play space that is safe and well-maintained.

Then, children will have time to use the bathroom before we start our lunch in  family Style Dining. Family-style dining is considered the best practice when eating with children. They enjoy their food together with the adults, fostering pleasant conversation, and promoting a sense of community as they serve themselves. Children learn independence, social skills and other important habits that will last them throughout adulthood.

Then comes our Nap Time. “Naptime for any child under the age of four is important for two reasons. One, their body is growing at such a tremendous pace it needs the rest time during the day. Two, a child's mind is absorbing so much information all morning long that it, too, needs the quiet time to catch up.”

Children who are not napping will be provided engaging quiet toys, books, puzzles, and sensory materials.

Children will have their afternoon snacks, the third meal that we offer, following the food guide recognized by Heath Canada or Alberta Health.

There will be an array of toys and materials that the children can play with as they complete their day with so much fun while waiting for their parents to pick them up.
